Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Certificate

Course Summary

This course provides broad sector-specific training for those in the retail industry whop aspire to be or have recently become sales professionals, senior visual merchandisers or first line managers.

Course Description

There are seven units of study:
  • Merchandise handling and display (20 guided learning hours)
    • How display and layout can influence customer response
    • Assessing information on the effectiveness of display and layout
    • How to encourage and motivate staff  
  • Financial services and controls (20 guided learning hours)
    • Borrowing facilities for customers
    • Monitoring payment points
    • How to investigate losses and implement security procedures
  • Maintaining and improving customer relations (20 guided learning hours)
    • Know the function of customer service in retailing
    • How to improve customer service levels
    • New customers and promoting a product or service
    • Providing a personalised service to customers
  • Storage and stock control (20 guided learning hours)
    • Supervising stock management systems
    • Know how to put a retail stock audit programme in practice
    • How to use audit findings to identify improvements
  • Being a team leader in retail (20 guided learning hours)
    • How to supervise team working
    • How to organise learning in a retail environment
    • Understand current developments in the retail industry
  • Improving retail operations (20 guided learning hours)
    • Identifying opportunities for solving problems and improving operations
    • Putting retail operations improvements into practice
    • How to assess and control risks to health and safety
  • Staff recruitment and planning in retail (20 guided learning hours)
    • How to recruit staff to a retail team
    • Know the rights and responsibilities of employers and workers
    • How to plan and monitor staffing levels and work schedules to meet operational targets

Assessment Method

Assessment will be carried out by means of a mix of assignments, case-studies, projects and work-based assessments. These work-based assessments will be carried out by a qualified vocational assessor and will include: observation of workplace activities; product evidence; questions; witness statements; personal reflective log.

Study Type, Duration and Location

This Level 3 BTEC Certificate in Retailing is a 140-hour qualification consisting of seven units. The course would typically be 4 months in duration with up to 5 sessions held at our Training Centre in Mamoura.

Entry Requirement

Learners should be employed within the industry or a realistic working environment. The course is taught in English and requires a minimum of IELTS level 5.

Progression

This Award covers modules of the underpinning knowledge required for the NVQ Level 3 in Retailing. It also covers Key Skills and the Wider Curriculum elements.
