BTEC Level 2 Award or Diploma in Business Administration

Course Summary

Learn how organisations are structured and the various ways in which they operate different administrative functions, such as finance, health and safety, human resources or operations. Develop an understanding of how administration fits into the organisation’s structure and investigate the functions of a range of office equipment. Learn how to establish good working relationships and personal standards for success.

Course Description

For the Award, learners must successfully complete one core unit and two specialist units from a choice of six.

For the Diploma, learners must complete all seven units.

  • Communication techniques and information management (30 guided learning hours)
    • How to communicate using different methods
    • How manual filing systems are organised
    • Be able to find and present different types of information in different formats
  • Legal Procedures and Administration (30 guided learning hours)
    • Understand procedures related to health, safety and security
    • Understand relevant legislation
    • Know the main clauses contained in a contract of employment and employment procedures
  • Customer Service in an Administrative Environment (30 guided learning hours
    • Understand the needs and expectations of all customers
    • How to build customer relationships
    • How to deal with customer problems
  • Administrative functions (30 guided learning hours)
    • Understand the role of the receptionist when dealing with visitors
    • Know how to manage different types of diaries
    • How to arrange business travel and accommodation
  • Organising and supporting meetings
    • Know how to plan meetings
    • Know how to provide administrative support for a meeting
    • Be able to make a record of a meeting
  • IT for administration
    • Choose suitable computer software and hardware
    • Complete common office tasks using email, word processing and spreadsheet software
    • Know the risks of working with IT equipment and how to reduce the risks in an office environment

Assessment Method

Assessment will be carried out by a qualified vocational assessor which will include: observation of workplace activities; product evidence; questions; witness statements; personal reflective log.

Study Type, Duration and Location

The Level 2 BTEC Award in Business Administration is a 90-hour qualification consisting of three units of 30 hours each. The course would typically be 3 months in duration with up to 12 sessions held at our Training Centre in Mamoura.

The Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Business Administration is a 210-hr qualification consisting of seven units of 30 hours each. The course would typically be 6 months in duration.

Entry Requirement

Learners should be employed within the industry or a realistic working environment. The course is taught in English and requires a minimum of IELTS level 5.

Progression

This Award covers modules of the underpinning knowledge required for the NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration. It also covers Key Skills and the Wider Curriculum elements.
